A letter from Ryan
Dear clients, friends and partners,
When my wife Cara and I started Baldwin Hardwoods in 2008, we knew we wanted the business to be rooted (pun intended) in community, quality, sustainability, and craft.
Working in the northern Colorado tree industry early in my career, I saw perfectly good hardwood logs go into the waste stream, and the seed of an idea started to germinate in my mind:
What if … these urban trees could be reused?
What if … we could mill urban timber and then transform it into slabs and lumber?
What if … we could use this material to build really special, one-of-a-kind furniture?
I saw an opportunity to build something creative, something unique and something that could be really great.
This is where Baldwin Hardwoods began.
Working with a good friend on a borrowed sawmill, I began teaching myself how to mill wood. Then, I learned how to dry it in a home-made solar kiln that I built with another friend. Word somehow got out, and I started taking on any project that I could find. My clients trusted me, and Baldwin Hardwoods started to grow.
In addition to building furniture, I wanted to share and support the craft.
We started to source unique urban woods from around northern Colorado and woodworkers began coming to us to find slabs and unusual species that they just couldn’t find elsewhere. We also began building custom pieces for clients in Colorado. Gradually, we’ve expanded and we now ship our furniture across the US.
Since the beginning our priority has been to listen to our customers. In response to your feedback, we expanded our products over time to include dimensional lumber and a variety of metal table base styles. Recently, we introduced woodworking products and epoxy to begin to make Baldwin Hardwoods a one-stop-shop.
What I’m most proud of is the feedback I hear from you – our clients and partners. You appreciate the quality of what we deliver, but most importantly, you tell me about the service, the knowledge and the partnerships you enjoy with our team. As an owner there is no greater compliment than to hear a customer rave about our team and just how much we care about getting it right. I want to recognize our team for their hard work and incredible commitment – Joel, Laura, Brad, Jeremy, Andrew, Tor, Riley, Lucy and Cara. Thank you.
What’s next for Baldwin Hardwoods?
This business continues to grow because of our amazing clients and our partnership with many really talented fellow woodworkers.
What unites us all is a love of wood and the amazing stories we find inside of each log. You helped us shape and grow this business, and this move is a testament to the shared opportunities that lie ahead. I honestly don’t know where we will be five years from now, but I am excited about this next chapter and how it positions us to keep doing more and keep getting better.
Visit us at our new location in Fort Collins starting Wed., April 27
We have operated in a few different locations over the years, but I’m most excited about this new showroom. It took us a while to find the right new space that will allow us to provide you with better services and an expanded selection of live edge slabs and dimensional lumber. This new showroom and warehouse offers the best of both worlds – an improved shopping experience for our furniture customers and more room for the wide selection of slabs and dimensional lumber that you’ve come to expect from us.
We really appreciate your support as we make this transition. Beginning Wed., April 27, you can find our showroom at: 1225 Red Cedar Circle Unit A, Fort Collins, CO 80524.
Thank you for your patience as we pack things up. As you can imagine, moving large slabs of wood isn’t the easiest of jobs, but we’ll get it done and see you soon in our new location. Here’s the moving schedule:
- April 1-23: Moving Sale
- April 25-26: CLOSED
- April 27: Open at our New Location
